First Reflection

“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” ~ Aldous Huxley I have been implementing the action plans captured in my personal roadmap for the last few weeks though it was posted just a week ago on my blog. Today’s blog will focus on the success story of the physical area of development. I will concentrate on success because I  genuinely believe in the power of positivity in life. I would like to initiate the habit of weekly journaling on the personal roadmap in a positive direction instead of writing about what could have worked or what went wrong.  I was able to wake up in the morning at 6 am and quite surprisingly, at times I am awake way before the alarm goes off. I don’t feel the need to take an afternoon or evening nap to compensate for lost sleep hours as I go to sleep early. Prior to developing and implementing the Spring semester’s personal roadmap, I used to be a night owl. I think all my adult life, I...

My Personal Roadmap

Image
I have been planning and developing my personal roadmap for the last two semesters but I wasn’t confident enough to post it on my blog and make it public to my readers. The doubts about my inability to successfully achieve the goals reflected in my roadmap stopped me from even thinking of posting it on my blog. I think that's the imposter syndrome taking the main lead. However, this year I have decided to post it on my blog so I can move out of my comfort zone. As I upload my personal roadmap, I am also making a commitment to write a reflection every week to be accountable and take ownership for my personal roadmap. The success stories and failed attempts at the implementation of my nebulous personal roadmap will be captured in my reflection. My focus for the next four months will be on Physical, Cerebral, Social, and Spiritual areas of development. I haven’t intentionally specified an Emotional area of development as the aforementioned four areas take care of an emotional area of ...

Twenty twenty-three

'Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year'  Ralph Waldo Emerson  Twenty twenty-three is going to be different as I decided not to follow the 'new year, new me' motto. Usually, I used to be excited to kickstart new year with at least one new year resolution. But this year I couldn't bring myself to formulate any new year resolution. I think new year resolutions are great as it give people the motivation to do something good for themselves. But in most cases, people are most likely to forget their new year resolutions within the first week of the year. Three and a half decades have passed yet I feel the need, every single time, to work on myself. Sadly, new year resolutions won't be able to do justice to the growth that I intend to see in me. Every morning I want to be receptive and acceptive to the greater energy. The first thing that I used to do was to drink coffee and smoke a stick or two. But ever since I quit smoking two years ago an...

We are Made to Feel Our Emotions

Image
As a part of innovative teaching pedagogy sharing of emotions was implemented in two sections of PGDE’s Educational Psychology modules during the spring semester of the academic year, 2021. For an entire semester, my students were encouraged to share their emotions either at the beginning or end of the class. The aim of sharing emotions was to help the students to be in touch with their emotions and to develop emotional intelligence. The term “emotion” comes from the Latin “emovere” which means “to put in motion”. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), emotion is defined as “a complex reaction pattern, involving experiential, behavioral and physiological elements.” An emotion can also be defined as an “organism’s reaction to an external event, which has physiological, cognitive and behavioral aspects'' (Jacques Lecomte’s Les 30 notions de la psychologie ). Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and regulate one’s emotions and understand the emotio...

New height of laziness

I had been going through a phase clouded with extreme laziness for few weeks. I am not alien to these kind of phases as I have been through this in past and fortunately, I was able to come out of it with a renewed energy. Somehow, currently I am stuck and is not able to get out of this vicious cycle. Today I decided to give myself a reality check and to fight with my inner demons to figure out what is really going on in my life. So, what's the best way to do it than to blog on it.  I am a nocturnal person but the definition of a night person has changed to staying up late till 3 to 4 am in the morning. With inadequate hours of sleep, I feel so tired and sluggish. I have started to experience unpleasant emotions frequently with high intensity. I feel so helpless for not being able to get a grip on my daily routine. At times, I panic over a possibility to having to face my anxiety and depression all over again. A part of me wants to come out of this phase and get back to my active da...
